The pearl perch ( Glaucosoma ) are a genus of perch relatives (Percomorphaceae). They are monotypical in the family Glaucosomatidae. Pearlfish live in the Indo-Pacific in a relatively narrow area that stretches from Japan to Australia .

features

Pearlfish have an oval, laterally flattened, high-backed body with a large head, large eyes and a large, sloping mouth. The mouth can be pushed forward and has dense rows of small teeth and some protruding fangs. Your dorsal fin has eight hard rays and 11 to 14 soft rays. The anal fin has three hard and twelve soft rays. Some rays of the dorsal, anal and caudal fin can be elongated like threads. Perch are 30 centimeters to 1.2 meters long, have a continuous lateral line organ and 25 vertebrae.

With their closest relatives, the glass or hatchet fish (Pempheridae), and other families, the pearlfish form the newly established order Pempheriformes in the latest revision of the bony fish system .
