The Pesttor is an entrance gate to the municipal cemetery in Bad Düben, built in 1577 in the Renaissance style .

The plague gate is the southern entrance to the municipal cemetery in Bad Düben . The three-gate portal was built in 1577 by Thomas Kretzschmer and was completed by Markus Hermen under the direction of Mayor Blasius Borstel. The Latin inscription says u. a. its builder M. Hermen. At that time there was a devastating plague in Bad Düben. When the old cemetery at the Nikolaikirche was overcrowded, a new cemetery, today's city cemetery, was created. It is a memorial to the most devastating epidemic that has ever struck Bad Düben. In 1994 the plague gate was restored .

Architectural style

The three-sided portal is a triumphal arch-like gate system with a wide central passage and two side passages and was built in 1577 in the Renaissance style. The middle arch is framed by fluted pilasters , above is an entablature with an inscription and arches with an egg stick motif. The arch at the left gate is no longer preserved. The facade consists of sandstone and a plaster facade .

The plague gate is a listed building.
