Philippe Bacchetta

Philippe Bacchetta (born January 1, 1960 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss economist .

He is Professor of Macroeconomics at the Swiss Finance Institute (SFI) at the University of Lausanne and Chairman of its Department of Economics. He is program director of the International Macroeconomics - and financial program (International Macroeconomics and Finance program) of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London.

Career

Philippe Bacchetta studied economics at Harvard University (Ph.D. and MA) and previously at the University of Lausanne (MS and BA). From 1998 to 2007 he was director of the Gerzensee Study Center , a foundation of the Swiss National Bank . He was assistant professor at Brandeis University , USA, and at ESADE and the Instituto de Análisis Económico , both in Barcelona. He was visiting professor at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (Graduate Institute) in Geneva, at the Paris School of Economics , at the University of Geneva , at the University of Freiburg (Germany) , at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra , Barcelona, at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and at the CEMFI in Madrid. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard University, the IMF and NBER and an academic advisor to various central banks .

He is a member of the European Economic Association (European Economic Association) and was president of the Swiss Society of Economics and Statistics and a member of the National Research Council of the SNSF . In 2011 he received an Advanced Researcher Grant from the European Research Council (European Research Council, ERC) .

His research interests are macroeconomics of the open economy , international finance , financial crises, and the money economy .

He is married and has two children.
