Petar Pismestrovic

Petar Pismestrović (born May 3, 1951 in Sremska Mitrovica , Yugoslavia ) is an Austrian cartoonist .

Life

After graduating from high school , he studied political science in Zagreb . In 1970 he began his professional career as a portrait caricaturist. Since then he has worked for more than 50 different journals and magazines . At the same time he was also active as a designer , illustrator and draftsman . He worked on numerous books, made covers for records, designed mascots and posters. In addition to 35 own exhibitions, he took part in many world caricature festivals.

From 1981 to 1985 Pismestrović was Vice President of the Croatian Association for Applied Arts. In 1985 he and a few colleagues founded the Croatian Association of Cartoonists. He also organized five world caricature festivals - one of them in Wolfsberg , Carinthia . His complete works include more than 35,000 caricatures.

Political cartoons have appeared in various books, including a. "The Finest International Political Cartoons of our Time" USA and "Politics for the Third Millennium - Festschrift for Alois Mock on his 60th birthday", "Ho (h) les Haus". He wrote two books with political caricatures: "Partija pokera" ( Croatia ) and "Karikaturen" (Austria).

He has lived with his family in Klagenfurt (Austria) since 1991 and has an exclusive contract with the Kleine Zeitung . He is also an employee of the Swiss humorous magazine “ Nebelspalter ”. His caricatures are represented on the Internet portals of Cartoonists & Writers Syndicate - New York Times, Artizans - Canada, Witty World - USA, TV cartoonist - Poland and many others and can also be seen on his homepage.

Petar Pismestrović has been an Austrian citizen since 1996 .

Awards

Pismestrović won the Golden Prize twice in Tolentino ( Italy ), Grand Prix in Deva ( Romania ) and first prizes in Belgrade , Zagreb and Split . He also received the Silver Prize in Tolentino, the “Excellence Prize” in Tokyo ( Japan ), the third prize in Tolentino, special prizes in Istanbul ( Turkey ), Ancona (Italy) and Tolentino.
