Born to American parents in Alsace, Pete “Wyoming” Bender spent his childhood and youth in the United States , playing saxophone , drums and guitar in his high school band. He later performed in army clubs and high school dance events with his first band. In 1962 he came to Germany, where he toured Germany's star club scene as the singer of the band The Flaming Stars in 1964. He later formed his own band with musicians from London and Liverpool.

He had joint appearances and tours with Alexis Korner in London and Liverpool, with Tony Sheridan in German-speaking countries as well as several charity appearances for organizations such as Greenpeace , the Indian movement and AIDS aid .

In 1974 Bender came to Berlin, founded the group Don't Worry together with Klaus Mäurich (guitar), Jonas Bergler (bass) and Rolo Rodriguez (drums) and played regularly in the popular folk clubs Folkpub and Go In . In 1979 he met Joe Kučera , who now became his musical accompanist on the saxophone. His most commercially successful time began in 1982 with the newly formed band and the release of his LP As if it were nothing . This was made in the AUDIO Studios Berlin in coproduction with Stan Regal in the period from September to November 1981. His biggest hit was in 1982 with I have loved this woman. With this song he was one of the interpreters of the last edition of the music show disco in November 1982 . Other well-known titles on this LP are Es ist die Macht, I never want war again, Just a stranger or No more victory. This was followed by numerous nationwide appearances in German and (West) Berlin jazz and folk clubs such as the " Eierschale ", Joe's Bierhaus, Sudhaus or the Quasimodo . He went on tour with his Pete Wyoming Bender Band in 1983, supporting Chris de Burgh , and in 1986 he had an appearance with Joy Fleming . In the years that followed, appearances followed in other Berlin jazz clubs such as the Flöz, Badenscher Hof and Yorkschlösschen (here mostly with a small cast) and until the end with changing musicians and as a guest musician at Rickenbackers Music-Inn.

Bender composed the music for the musical The Butterflies Are Free and for several films by Atze Brauner . In 1999 and 2000 he was nominated for a NAMMY ( Native American Music Award ).

Pete "Wyoming" Bender was a member of the Lions Club Berlin-Meilenwerk. In 2009 the club elected him its president.

His band consisted primarily of his friend Joe Kučera (saxophone, clarinet, flute), Bob Howell (drums), Rolo Rodriguez (drums and percussion), Gerard Batrya and Eckhard "Ecki" Lüdeke (bass), Stephen Miller and Michael Gechter (guitar ). After the very successful LP As if it were nothing, these musicians also recorded a few subsequent records. When performing, he was happy to change, reduce or expand the line-up, e.g. B. with another keyboard synthesizer player or background singers. But he also gave solo appearances from time to time, only accompanied by his friend Joe.

He became known to a broad TV audience with an appearance in an edition of the highly regarded series Lieder & Menschen extra , broadcast by SWR , which was played live. The songs on the set list in the 30-minute show presented by Bill Ramsey were: It's the power, No more victory, Just a stranger, I never want war again, Jennifer and a cover version of the Lennon / McCartney classic Got to get you into my life. During this gig he expanded his band with John Heinrich (steel guitar) and Andreas Hommelsheim (keyboard and synthesizer, member of 55 Fifty Five ).
