Peter-Arthur Straubinger (born July 7, 1970 in Bad Aussee ), also known under the short form PA Straubinger , is an Austrian film critic , filmmaker , journalist , presenter and keynote speaker .

Life

After graduating from the European high school Auhof in Linz in 1988 , Straubinger spent a year abroad in the Dominican Republic, where he moderated the Spanish-language radio station "95.7 La Nota Diferente".

From 1989 he studied at the Vienna Film Academy ( University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , Institute for Film and Television) together with colleagues such as Jessica Hausner , Barbara Albert and Martin Gschlacht and graduated with honors in 1996. For his diploma thesis “Multimedia Networks” he was awarded the prize of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Transport in 1996.

After a brief engagement with the private broadcaster Radio CD International in 1992, he switched to Hitradio Ö3 in February 1993 , where he has since worked as a film critic with his cinema section “Movie Minute”.

For Hitradio Ö3 Straubinger also moderated the weekly program “Treffpunkt Ö3 - Kino” and designed numerous other film sections. He also worked as a designer and presenter for ORF television and presented “Backstage - MovieTime” together with Rudolf John .

In 2010 his first full-length feature film was released, the documentary “ In the beginning was the light ” , which developed into the most successful film documentary of the year 2010 in Austrian cinemas and led to heated discussions. “In the beginning was the light” was awarded the Austrian Ticket and the highest award of the “Joint Film Awards Commission of Austrian Federal States” (GFPK), the title “Particularly Valuable”, but also the Golden Board , the satirical award of the Austrian skeptic movement (“ Society for Critical Thinking ”, Vienna Regional Group of the Society for the Scientific Investigation of Parasciences ).

Regarding the discussions about his film, Straubinger says that he wanted to trigger them in order to “question an outdated mechanistic worldview”. Straubinger sees himself misunderstood by many of his critics and warns against self-experiments with the so-called " light feeding process ". In April 2012, the Tages-Anzeiger reported on the case of a Swiss woman who, after watching the film, decided to feed on light and starved to death. As a result, the Tages-Anzeiger published a statement by Peter-Arthur Straubinger in which he refers to numerous warnings against self-experiments in the film, to misleading text passages in the Tages-Anzeiger article and to a statement by the responsible public prosecutor, who expressly states that " no third party can be held responsible for the death of the woman ”and it was not examined at all whether the woman had actually seen“ In the beginning was the light ”.

Regarding the possibility of light nutrition, Straubinger believes that he believes in an “authentic phenomenon of non-caloric” nutrition that is present in every person to a certain extent. He sees himself confirmed in scientific studies that are said to have shown inexplicable shortfalls in the human energy balance. However, Straubinger does not want to judge how long and to what degree “non-caloric” nutrition is possible and sees his film as an invitation to science to do more studies on this topic.

"In the beginning was the light" was also sold internationally and developed into the most internationally successful Austrian film in 2010, which was discussed in numerous media around the world.

In addition to his journalistic and filmmaking activities, Straubinger also works as a lecturer and keynote speaker.
