Peter Diem (born April 7, 1937 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist , media scientist and co-editor of the Austria Forum .

Life

Peter Diem studied law and political science at the University of Vienna , which he received with a Dr. iur. Graduated in 1960. He also studied English (academic translator 1958) and then political science at Southern Illinois University , MS 1961. 1961/1962 he did military service (lieutenant in the reserve in the intelligence force) and completed the 1963 court year in Vienna. Diem is a member of the KÖStV Rudolfina Vienna in the Austrian Cartel Association .

From 1964 he was first a federal organizational officer and later head of the basic research department in the federal party leadership of the ÖVP .

In 1976 Diem worked as a freelance journalist and in 1977/78 as a book market researcher and translator for the Fritz Molden publishing house .

From the beginning of 1979 he took part in setting up the media research department at ORF . In 1990 the Teletest electronic audience measurement system was introduced . For three years he remained chairman of the working group of the European broadcast research group of European Audience Researchers (GEAR). He wrote media studies and publications related to Austria.

After retiring from ORF, he was a consultant for online research at GfK Austria , formerly Fessel-GfK, and u. a. responsible for setting up online research in the GfK institutes in Central and Eastern Europe.

Together with Trautl Brandstaller and others, he campaigned through the non-partisan citizens' initiative pro Austria for the creation of a House of the History of the Republic of Austria , which was opened as the House of History of Austria on November 11, 2018 in the New Castle of the Hofburg in Vienna.

Diem's ​​private interests include political symbols and lexicography . He is co-editor of the Austria Forum , which is headed by university professor Hermann Maurer as main editor, as well as publisher of plattform - HISTORIA by the platform Martinek Verlag.
