Peter Engelmann (publisher)
Peter Engelmann (born April 30, 1947 in Berlin ) is a German philosopher, editor and publisher. Engelmann founded the Wiener Edition Passagen in 1985 and the Wiener Passagen Verlag in 1987 .
Life
Peter Engelmann studied philosophy in East Berlin . For political reasons, Engelmann was sentenced to two years imprisonment in the GDR in 1972 , one year of which he had to spend in a Stasi prison . In 1973 Engelmann came to the Federal Republic of Germany through the release of prisoners . He continued studying philosophy and sociology in Paris and Bremen and received his doctorate on Hegel in 1979 .
In 1985 Engelmann founded Edition Passagen in Vienna, and in 1987 Passagen Verlag . As editor of Jacques Derrida , Jean-François Lyotard , Jean Baudrillard , Sarah Kofman , Peter Eisenman , Slavoj Žižek , Paul Virilio , Jacques Rancière , Jean-Luc Nancy , Gianni Vattimo and other authors of postmodernism and deconstruction , he made a significant contribution to the spread the works of French contemporary philosophy in the German-speaking area. Engelmann is the author of philosophical texts and has taught philosophy at universities in Germany, Austria and the USA.
