Peter Füssenich (born January 19, 1971 in Bonn ) is a German architect and monument conservator. He has been the cathedral builder in Cologne since the beginning of 2016 .

Life

Füssenich graduated from high school in 1990 at the Collegium Josephinum Bonn . From 1993 he completed a degree in architecture at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences , which he completed in 2001, followed by postgraduate studies at the Institute for Building History and Monument Preservation from 2002 to 2004. In his thesis, he dealt with the Cologne Cathedral .

This was followed by a job as a construction consultant at the Vicariate General in Cologne , where he was in charge of church building supervision for construction work by parishes. He was also an advisor to the church art commission on liturgical redesign of churches.

After the sudden death of the deputy cathedral builder Bernd Billecke in April 2012, he was hired in July 2012 as the new architect and deputy cathedral builder at the Dombauhütte. After the cathedral chapter and cathedral builder Michael Hauck separated by mutual agreement in 2014 as a result of internal tensions, Füssenich also temporarily took over the duties of the cathedral builder. In January 2016, the Cologne Cathedral Chapter decided on Füssenich as the new master builder after a selection process that had been running since October 2015 with 15 competitors.
