Michael Hauck (born May 28, 1960 in Würzburg ) is a German stonemason, restorer and art historian. From 1988 to 2012 he was master builder at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Passau and from 2012 to 2015 Cologne master builder .

Career

Michael Hauck from Estenfeld attended the X-ray high school in Würzburg , completed an apprenticeship as a stonemason and stone sculptor and then passed his master craftsman examination. He also trained as a wood sculptor and restorer . He completed a part-time study of art history and Romance studies from 1997 onwards. His academic focus is the history of medieval architecture. One focus of his research is on the topic of stonecutter marks , which he also worked on as part of the EU research project stonemarks . He was also significantly involved in the creation of the Digital Cathedral Archive in Passau.

From October 1988 to March 2012, Hauck was in charge of the State Dombauhütte at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Passau, and since 2009 as bishop's master builder. He teaches as a lecturer at the master school of the Dortmund Chamber of Crafts and at the chair for restoration sciences in monument conservation at the University of Bamberg .

In the summer of 2011 he was elected as successor to Barbara Schock-Werner as master builder in Cologne , since April 1st he was active as deputy cathedral builder, on September 1st, 2012 he took over his office.

Michael Hauck has been a member of the board of the European Association of Cathedral Builders, Minster Builders and Builders ( Dombaumeister e.V. ) since 1998 ; in September 2013 he was elected president of the association.

In June 2014, the Kölnische Rundschau reported that the cathedral chapter and Hauck wanted to terminate the employment contract prematurely. At the end of May 2014, Hauck was given notice without notice on December 31, 2014. Before starting a trial in this matter before the labor court in April 2015, Hauck made a statement to the public in which he set out what, in his opinion, were decisive reasons for the dismissal. On April 23, the Cologne Labor Court declared the termination to be ineffective, as termination without notice with a notice period of more than seven months was not permitted under the employment contract. The court did not check whether the reasons for the termination existed and would have justified termination without notice. The cathedral chapter appealed against this decision. In September 2015, Hauck and the cathedral chapter announced an amicable separation of the employment relationship. The allegations made in each case were not upheld.

Volunteering

From 2002 to 2013, Michael Hauck was the chairman of the Association for the Promotion of the Cycle Path Network in the Lower Bavarian Forest eV for the construction of cycle paths in the district of Passau and in the district of Freyung-Grafenau . In particular, he tried to ensure that the Passau – Freyung railway line should not be reactivated. He himself lives in the former Fürsteneck train station on this route and was committed to ensuring that the communities should build a cycle path on this route. These efforts fizzled out and the line was reactivated in the summer of 2011. At the end of July 2013, the association was dissolved due to a sharp drop in membership.
