Peter Feyrsinger (born May 12, 1954 in Kitzbühel ) is a former Austrian ski racer . He started in the Ski World Cup in the 1970s , his specialty being downhill .

biography

Feyrsinger began skiing at an early age, was accepted into the Kitzbühel Ski Club in 1960 and later joined the team of the Tyrolean Ski Association. After some successes with the juniors, the downhill specialist was accepted into the A-squad of the Austrian Ski Association in the early 1970s .

The young Tyrolean celebrated his first major successes in the European Cup in the 1972/73 season . With two victories in Fulpmes and third place in Zell am See , he won the downhill classification ahead of his compatriots Werner Grissmann and Rainulf Lemberger . In the same winter, Feyrsinger started in the World Cup for the first time and got his first World Cup points with sixth place in the downhill from Garmisch-Partenkirchen on January 7, 1973. Three weeks later he came seventh on the Hahnenkamm downhill run on the Streif in his hometown of Kitzbühel and thus finished 16th in the Downhill World Cup of the 1972/73 season . At the Austrian championships in 1973 he came in third behind Josef Walcher and Werner Grissmann.

In the 1973/74 season Feyrsinger achieved his best World Cup result. Behind his team mate Karl Cordin and the Swiss Roland Collombin , he finished third in the downhill from Zell am See on December 18, 1973, at the same time as Josef Walcher and Manfred Grabler from Salzburg, who started for Australia . Four days later he finished tenth in Schladming and finished 15th in the final ranking of the Downhill World Cup.

In the next two seasons, Feyrsinger was no longer in the top ten and thus did not get any more World Cup points. He achieved one last success in 1976 at the Austrian championships , when he finished third in the downhill after Ernst Winkler and Uli Spieß, just like three years earlier. In 1976 Feyrsinger ended his racing career at the age of 22. He took over his parents' farm , married and had four children. The youngest son also started skiing and became the Tyrolean champion, but then decided against a sporting career. Even after his active career, Feyrsinger remained connected to skiing and worked as a ski instructor.
