Peter Gemeinhardt

Peter Gemeinhardt (born January 3, 1970 in Hamburg ) is a German Protestant theologian. He has been Professor of Church History at the Theological Faculty of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen since 2007 and from 2015 spokesman for the DFG Collaborative Research Center “Education and Religion in the Cultures of the Mediterranean Region and its Environment from Antiquity to the Middle Ages and Classical Islam”.

Life

Gemeinhardt studied Protestant theology in Marburg and Göttingen from 1990 to 1996 and was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . In 2001 he received his doctorate in church history under Wolfgang Bienert in Marburg. 2003 Gemeinhardt became the pastor of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck (EKKW) ordained . From 2003 to 2006 he was a Martin Bucer scholar at EKKW and in 2006 completed his habilitation with Martin Wallraff in the subject of church history at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , where he was the professor for church history (patristic) from 2006 to 2007. In 2006 he was offered a professorship for church and dogma history (focus: old church) at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , in 2007 a professorship for church history at the theological faculty of the Georg-August- University of Göttingen . From 2013 to 2014 he was the Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Theology.

On July 1, the special research area he initiated "Education and Religion in the Cultures of the Mediterranean Region and its Environment from Antiquity to the Middle Ages and Classical Islam" (SFGB 1136 ) was approved by the German Research Foundation (DFG) Years with a total of 6.7 million euros.

Gemeinhardt was spokesman for the Courant research center EDRIS (Education and Religion From Early Imperial Roman Times to the Classical Period of Islam) at the University of Göttingen from 2010 to 2014 and from 2007 to 2012 a member of the DFG graduate program “Images of Gods - Images of God - World Images ". Since 2007 he has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the denominational institute of the Evangelical Federation in Bensheim / Bergstrasse .
