from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter Hauptmann (born July 24, 1944 in Sandau , Stendal district , Magdeburg province ) is a German physicist and university professor .

Life

From 1963 to 1968 Hauptmann studied physics at the Technical University of Dresden with Heinz Pose . From 1968 to 1973 he worked as a research assistant at the Technical University of Leuna-Merseburg , Physics section. In 1973 he received his doctorate there with a thesis on the propagation of ultrasound in some polymer dispersions in connection with their structure . After that he was a lecturer at this university from 1973 to 1980.

From 1978 to 1979 he spent a postdoctoral year at the Leningrad State University . Back at the University of Leuna-Merseburg, he completed his habilitation in 1979 with a thesis on the connection between ultrasound absorption and the structure of liquid polymer systems and became a professor there. From 1982 to 1985 he was research director of the physics faculty at the University of Leuna-Merseburg.

In 1985, Hauptmann moved to the Technical University of Magdeburg , where he was full professor for process measurement technology at the technical cybernetics faculty until 1993 . From 1990 to 1992 he was Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at this university.

He co-founded the Sensotech company (1990) and the private institute for automation and communication in Barleben (1991).

From 1993 to 2009 Hauptmann was professor for measurement technology and microsystem technology at the newly founded Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg , Faculty of Electrical Engineering. In 1998 and 1999 he temporarily held a professorship for industrial sensor systems at the Vienna University of Technology , Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.

From 2000 to 2002 he was a member of the Senate of Magdeburg University and head of the Institute for Micro and Sensor Systems. In 2004 he was head of the chair for measurement technology / sensor technology at the Institute for Micro and Sensor Systems at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg

Research areas

Hauptmann did research in the field of measurement technology , sensor technology and sensor systems . He always tried to apply basic academic research to industrial projects. He has led more than 50 projects including:

  • 1992–1996: Method and device for determining the propagation speed of ultrasound
  • 1997–1998: Measurement technology for the detection of wheel bearing damage with resonant micromechanical vibration sensors
  • 1998–1999: Resonant sensor array for on-line condition analysis of liquids
  • 1998–2000: Characterization of laboratory samples for a condition analysis of a motor vehicle
  • 1998–2002: Method and device for determining the complex elasticity or shear modulus of a thin layer by means of oscillators
  • 2002–2004: Quartz resonator biosensor for use in medicine
  • 2004–2006: Development of defined functional layers to elucidate the generation of signals from oscillating quartz sensors when measuring nanoparticles
  • 2006–2007: Signal analysis for sound-supported precipitation and wind recording
  • 2006–2011: Method and device for determining different substance concentrations in a complex liquid
  • 2009–2013: Sensors based on phononic crystals
  • 2011–2016: Procedure for cavitation detection

Offices and memberships

Hauptmann is editor of the journal Measurement Science and Technology . He is an expert reviewer of the working group of industrial research associations "Otto von Guericke" and a member of the research advisory board for measurement and sensor technology at DECHEMA . He was one of the founding members of the East German section of the AMA Fachverband für Sensorik und Messtechnik in 1990. He is also involved in the Emeritio professorial committee , which is dedicated to the general knowledge transfer to broad sections of the population.
