Peter Husslein

Peter Husslein , also Peter Wolf Husslein , (born May 27, 1952 in Vienna ) is an Austrian gynecologist . Since 1996 he has been director of the University Clinic for Gynecology at the Medical University of Vienna, which was spun off in 2004 .

Life

Peter Husslein was born as the son of the gynecologist Hugo Husslein (1908–1985), head of the II. University Women's Clinic in Vienna, and the specialist in gynecology Adelina Husslein. After the Lycée Français de Vienne , he attended the Theresian Academy in Vienna. After graduating from high school in 1970, he studied medicine at the University of Vienna , where his father was dean at the time and Peter Husslein received his doctorate in 1975 Sub auspiciis . At the same time, he passed the first diploma examination at what was then the University of World Trade , later the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

After completing her dissertation, she trained as a specialist in Innsbruck, Salzburg and Vienna. He worked as a gynecologist and obstetrician in Lomé , Togo for six months and researched for fifteen months in the United States at the Cornell Medical School of Cornell University in New York State in a research laboratory under the direction of Anna-Riitta Fuchs. In 1985 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the importance of oxytocin and prostaglandins for the birth mechanism in humans .

In 1992 he was appointed full professor for obstetrics and gynecology and head of the I. University Women's Clinic in Vienna. After a restructuring of the University Clinic for Gynecology, he became head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1993. Since 1996 he has been director of the University Clinic for Gynecology at the Medical University of Vienna, which was spun off in 2004 . He is editor and member of the editorial board of various scientific journals such as Der Gynäkologe and board member of the Austrian Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics, the Austrian Society for Pre- and Perinatal Medicine and the European Society for Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ESIDOG) Austria. He is also a court-sworn expert. His scientific focuses include human genetics , labor research and premature birth .

Peter Husslein is married to Agnes Husslein , with whom he has two children. She accompanied him to New York and gave up her position at Dorotheum . After her return, she became the managing director of Sotheby’s Austria.
