Live and act
Kuhn grew up in Los Angeles and from the mid-1970s played in California with David Sewelson , with whom he made his first recordings in 1976 ( Synchro-Incity ). At the invitation of Anthony Braxton , he then moved to New York and was active in the local loft scene in the following years ; In 1977 he was a member of the Frank Lowe Orchestra ( Lowe & Behold , inter alia with Butch Morris , Joseph Bowie and Billy Bang ). In late 1978 he recorded his debut album Livin 'Right , with Arthur Williams , Toshinori Kondo , William Parker and Denis Charles . In 1979/80 the follow-up album Ghost of a Trance ( hatHut ) was created in two sessions , with William Parker (on tuba ), Phillip Wilson and with David Sewelson, Mark Miller (vibraphone), Wayne and Bill Horvitz ; At the end of 1981, The Kill ( Soul Note ) followed, which Kuhn had recorded in a quartet with Wayne Horvitz, William Parker and Denis Charles. In addition, Kuhn played in the 1970s in a trio with William Winant and Chris Brown at the Miles Playhouse in Santa Monica.
Drug addiction impaired Kuhn's career for many years; after his return to the California jazz scene, he worked with musicians such as Alex Cline , Abbey Rader and his own trio (with Kyle Motl and Nathan Hubbard ), with whom he presented the album The Other Shore ( NoBusiness Records ). In the field of jazz he was involved in ten recording sessions between 1976 and 2015.
