Peter López Santos (born September 23, 1981 in Irvine ) is a Peruvian Taekwondoin who competed for the USA until 2004 . He starts in the middleweight division.

López spent several years of his childhood in Peru, the homeland of his parents, and also started Taekwondo there. His family returned to the United States when he was nine. López started with his first international successes for the USA. In 1998 he became Junior World Champion in the class up to 59 kilograms in Istanbul . Two years later he was also able to win his first World Championship medal in the adult category with silver in the class up to 62 kilograms at the World Championships in Jeju-si . At the 2003 World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he reached the semifinals and won another medal with bronze.

In 2004 López led a Taekwondo course in Peru and decided a little later to start for Peru in the future. Further international success initially failed to materialize, and it was only when he won the silver medal at the 2007 Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro that he returned to the road to success. López qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . In the class up to 68 kilograms he reached the semi-finals, but narrowly missed a medal after defeats against Mark Lopez and Servet Tazegül . At the 2009 World Championships in Copenhagen , López reached the quarter-finals and achieved his best World Cup result since winning a medal in 2003. At the 2011 American Olympic qualification tournament in Santiago de Querétaro , he qualified for his second 2012 Olympic Games in London .
