Peter Marquart

Peter Marquart (* approx. 1956; † October 26, 2009 ) was a German civil engineer . From 2002 to 2008 he was the overall project manager for the Stuttgart – Ulm rail project ( Stuttgart 21 and the new Wendlingen – Ulm line ).

Career

Marquart came into contact with the world of construction at an early age in his parents' architectural office. He studied civil engineering with a focus on traffic planning at the University of Stuttgart .

Marquart has worked on rail projects throughout his career, including the Mannheim – Stuttgart high-speed line and the new and expanded Karlsruhe – Basel line . After graduating, Marquart worked in the construction industry for a few years before becoming a consultant. He was almost exclusively responsible for rail projects. Among other things, worked for DE-Consult in Berlin for almost four years .

Before working as Stuttgart 21 project manager, Marquart was again employed by DE-Consult, which was merged into DB ProjektBau. From May 1998 to November 2000 he was the company's authorized signatory .

Project manager of the Stuttgart – Ulm rail project

In 2002, Marquart became the project manager of the Stuttgart – Ulm rail project. He took the place of Reimar Baur, who had held this position since 1996. He initially worked for DB Projekt Süd GmbH .

Around 2003 he was in charge of the Stuttgart I project center responsible for Stuttgart 21 of DB ProjektBau , which planned the Stuttgart 21, the new Wendlingen – Ulm and Neu-Ulm 21 projects with around 80 employees and a planning budget of 220 million euros .

As a project manager, he prepared preliminary draft plans and prepared plan approval documents . In this role, among other things, in 2003 he held the hearing for the new Stuttgart main station and the Filder tunnel . In 2004 he accompanied the public hearing of the Bad Cannstatt , Feuerbach and Obertürkheim tunnels .

After the decision about the implementation of the project had been postponed again and again, it was also up to him to adapt the planning to new regulations. Around 2007 he was responsible for a 65-strong planning team. At the beginning of 2008 he led a team of 25.

According to a media report, Marquart was valued as a project manager in politics and business.

At the end of February 2008 Deutsche Bahn announced that it would be replacing Peter Marquart as project manager for Stuttgart 21 and the new Wendlingen – Ulm line. By order of Hartmut Mehdorn , he was replaced by Hany Azer with effect from April 1, 2008 . Marquart still represented the project in mid-March 2008. Deutsche Bahn did not comment on the reasons for the replacement.

Private life

Marquart was the father of a daughter. His hobbies included skiing and cycling.

He died on October 26, 2009 at the age of 53. He last lived in the Filderstadt district of Plattenhardt.
