Manfred Leger (born February 28, 1954 ) is a German industrial engineer . Since September 1, 2013 he has been managing director of DB Project Stuttgart – Ulm and thus responsible for the Stuttgart 21 railway projects and the new Wendlingen – Ulm line .

Career

Leger grew up in Munich. After studying engineering, his professional career began in 1979 at MBB in the aviation sector. In 1994 he moved to AEG in a position related to the railways. He was temporarily assistant to the current Daimler supervisory board chairman Manfred Bischoff .

In 2000 he was head of the railway track systems division at Adtranz when it was taken over by Balfour Beatty. Around 2002 he was managing director of Balfour Beatty Rail Power Systems , a Munich subsidiary of the London construction and service group Balfour Beatty. From the end of December 1999 to January 2001 he was an authorized signatory at DaimlerChrysler Rail Systems GmbH (Berlin).

In 2006 he was appointed Director of Infrastructure at Balfour Beatty . There he was Director International of the Balfour Beatty Rail Group. For Balfour Beatty, Leger built railways in Bulgaria and Malaysia, among others. Among other things, he was responsible for the technical equipment of the Gotthard Base Tunnel and was in charge of the electrical equipment for the Wuhan – Guangzhou high-speed line . Leger worked for Balfour Betty in London until 2013.

With effect from January 1, 2007, he was elected to the Supervisory Board of Balfour Beatty Rail GmbH. Around 2011 he was also a member of the management of the Balfour Beatty subsidiary BICC Holdings GmbH (Munich). From July 1, 2012, he was a member of the supervisory board of EL-Net Consulting AG (Munich).

Managing Director of DB Projekt Stuttgart – Ulm GmbH

At the end of June 2013, the appointment of the four-person management of DB Projekt Stuttgart-Ulm GmbH was announced. Leger was to be appointed chairman of their management team on August 1, 2013. Ultimately, he took over this function on September 1, 2013. He is the fifth head of the Stuttgart 21 rail project since 1994 , after Hans Sommer / Reimar Baur, Peter Marquart , Hany Azer and Stefan Penn .

According to his own information, he wants to realize Stuttgart 21 for a maximum of 5.8 billion euros. In January 2018 he was responsible for an increase in costs from then 6.5 to 8.2 billion euros.

He was personally selected for his new role by Volker Kefer .

Leger was technical project manager from the beginning of 2015 to the end of January 2018, before Olaf Drescher took over this function on February 1, 2018.

Leger is considered the project's “Foreign Minister” and maintains direct contact with DB Group, politics, the public and the media. While Drescher has been responsible for technical project management, project control, central construction logistics and technical system integration since then, Leger is responsible for quality assurance and communication / press.

On July 1, 2020, he is to hand over the chairmanship of the management to Olaf Drescher and henceforth keep his previous responsibilities as deputy.

Others

Leger lives in Munich. He wants to keep the center of his life in Munich. He is married and has two children.

He is considered a passionate rider.
