Peter Michalzik

Peter Michalzik (born April 24, 1963 in Landshut ) is a German author, university lecturer and journalist.

Life

Peter Michalzik grew up in Landshut (Lower Bavaria) and Weinheim (Baden-Württemberg). In Munich he studied German, philosophy, history and theater studies.

Michalzik worked as a journalist and literary critic for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Spiegel, Neue Zürcher Zeitung , Focus and Die Zeit. From 2000 to 2013 he was in the features section of the Frankfurter Rundschau, primarily as a theater critic. His field of work includes traditional theater as well as contemporary formats. He developed his own performances (2015–2018 the trilogy Mannheim Arrival , Games without Borders and Thebes: Mannheim Stories ) at the Nationaltheater Mannheim .

Michalzik also writes books, most recently in 1900 , a novel-like non-fiction book about Monte Verità and the reform of life at the beginning of the last century. Before that, a biography about Heinrich von Kleist appeared . He also published They're Naked! , a book about contemporary theater, and to date the only book about the publisher Siegfried Unseld . Michalzik was a member of various juries, including the Berlin Theatertreffen and the Mülheim Theatertage .

Michalzik teaches at several universities and colleges such as the Academy for Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg, the University of Lucerne and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Since 2016 he has been visiting professor for “Performance and Authorship” at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt am Main and lecturer at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In 2014 he curated the theater biennial “ New Plays from Europe ” in Wiesbaden and the “Autorentheatertage” in Berlin . Michalzik is a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts , the board of trustees of the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain and several juries (Ponto Performance Prize, Brücke Berlin Literature and Translator Prize , Binding Culture Prize ).

Michalzik lives with his family in Frankfurt am Main and Altkirchen (Upper Bavaria).
