Peter Paul Draewing (born June 29, 1876 in Schwaan ; † March 9, 1940 in Eisenach ) was a German painter . Above all, Draewing painted atmospheric landscapes influenced by French impressionism .

Life

Peter Paul Draewing came from poor petty bourgeois backgrounds. Draewing learned the profession of decorative painter in Rostock . There he also attended the trade school.

In 1896 he began studying at the art school in Weimar , where he was a student of Theodor Hagen , Carl Frithjof Smith and Hans Olde until 1904 . From 1904 to 1907 further studies at the art academy in Kassel followed. In 1907 he married in Weimar . In the same year he went on a study trip to Norway.

From 1907 Draewing was represented at exhibitions in Düsseldorf, Munich, Schwerin, Kassel and Hanover. Together with Franz Bunke , he visited his old hometown every year in order to study with other people interested in painting in the area around the city. Draewing was one of the main pillars of the Schwaan artist colony . In 1915 the family moved from Weimar to Eisenach. There he took a job as a drawing teacher in the Eisenach drawing school. On the occasion of his 60th birthday in June 1936, an anniversary exhibition with over 60 works, mainly oil paintings and watercolors, took place in the Eisenach Castle Museum . Draewing was a member of the German Association of Artists .

Peter Paul Draewing died on March 9, 1940 in Eisenach.
