Peter Paul Faust

Peter Paul Faust (born September 12, 1833 in Cologne , † October 1, 1912 ibid) was a German teacher and one of the first dialect poets of the Cologne language . He wrote over 70 popular Cologne carnival songs .

Life

After graduating from high school at Marzellegymnasium , he completed the teachers' seminar in Kempen . Faust worked as a teacher until 1871. In addition to his teaching profession, he began writing poems and texts mainly in the Cologne language. From 1871 he worked as an editor for the Kölnische Zeitung . In 1876 he was one of the co-founders of the Stadt-Anzeiger of the Kölnische Zeitung , of which he was one of the first editors until his illness-related retirement in 1896. While working for the newspaper, he was the first journalist to introduce the Cologne language into the daily press. Since 1876 he has published the weekly dialect column Wat sich de Familije Schmitz decayed . Peter Paul Faust was also the editor of several magazines. From 1881 to 1884 he was co-editor of the Kölnischer Käsblättchen with Heinrich Hoster . From 1886 to 1889 he edited the Cologne monthly Alaaf Köln together with Wilhelm Koch .

In addition to his journalistic work, he was also active in literature. Faust wrote stories, plays and poems in the Cologne language and is considered to be the author of over 70 carnival songs, including Marieche, Marieche, where is then dinge Jung, om Nümaat, om Nümaat and schleit de decke Trumm, which after his death in 1932 as Mariechentanz was set to music .

Honor

For his services to the Cologne language, Peter Paul Faust was appointed the first honorary member in 1902 by the Heimatverein Alt-Köln eV .
