Peter Ponzol

Peter Ponzol (born November 15, 1938 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz musician ( alto saxophone , tenor saxophone , flute ) and instrument developer.

Ponzol received private tuition, but also studied at the "Institute of Fine Arts". He then worked in New York City with Joe Gallardo and Abbey Rader , with whom he also went on tour and recorded the record "Prism". He also played with Todd Rundgren , Monty Alexander , Randy Brecker , Paul Chambers , Jimmy Cobb , Art Davis , Bob Moses , Mike Nock and Larry Young . He became increasingly concerned with playing the Lyricon . He came to Germany in 1981 with a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service . He played for a long time in the jazz ensemble of the Hessischer Rundfunk , in a duo with Elvira Plenar and with the Frankfurt Jazz Big Band , but also performed with John Taylor , Lajos Dudas and Fredi Alberti. Gallardo and Charles Austin brought him to their New Orchestra . He also developed saxophone mouthpieces for various manufacturers . From 1993 Ponzol worked again in the United States and performed with his own groups, sometimes together with Abbey Rader. In the first place he now concentrated on the development of mouthpieces; He further developed his series of saxophone mouthpieces for the instrument maker "Keilwerth" and began producing his own series of mouthpieces, including those made of surgical stainless steel .
