Peter Raacke

Peter Raacke (born September 27, 1928 in Hanau ) is a German product designer . He has worked with the design of the cutlery mono-a brand mono design history written.

Career

Raacke studied at the end of the 1940s at the state drawing academy in Hanau, at the Cologne factory schools and at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris .

Raacke created numerous everyday objects that have shaped everyday culture in the Federal Republic . In 1966 he was the first to develop a series of cardboard furniture made of corrugated cardboard , which was affordable for the masses with low production costs and high volumes. As a lecturer at the Universities of Design in Darmstadt, Saarbrücken, Kassel, and Ulm, and as a professor for industrial design at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts , he has influenced many young designers. He retired in 1994.

During his teaching activity at the School for Arts and Crafts in Saarbrücken, Wolfgang Kermer , Horst Linn and Hans Willi Scherf studied with him as the first of the art teacher training introduced in Saarbrücken in the 1956 summer semester. Even back then he was considered a teacher whose professional quality was based on his training and initial work as a goldsmith .

He is currently working in Berlin-Zehlendorf with his office raacke design .

One of his sons is the actor Dominic Raacke .

Exhibitions

In 2003 he was honored with the exhibition "50 Years of Peter Raacke Design" in the German Museum of Technology in Berlin. In 2004 there was the exhibition "50 Years of Peter Raacke Design - Design for Use" in the goldsmith's house in Hanau and in 2005 the retrospective "Peter Raacke - Design for Use" at the German Blade Museum in Solingen .

In 2008 the Bauhaus-Archiv Museum für Gestaltung in Berlin presented the exhibition "Peter Raacke: Simply Modern - From Craft to Design"

Honors

In 1999, the Deutsche Bundespost dedicated a 110-pfennig stamp to Peter Raacke and his mono-a cutlery in the design in Germany block edition . For his life's work he was awarded honorary membership of the German Designer Club in 2007 .
