Peter Schappert

Peter J. Schappert (born June 10, 1962 in Pirmasens ) is a German Catholic priest and cathedral chapter of the Speyer diocese . From 2005 to 2007 he was vicar general , in 2008 he took over the office of official . Since February 2009 he has been head of the finance and real estate department of the Episcopal Ordinariate in Speyer. On February 17, 2009, the Speyer cathedral chapter elected him as cathedral curator . He resigned from this office in mid-2019.

Life

education

After graduating from high school , Schappert studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Munich and Eichstätt . After completing his studies in Munich, he also obtained a licentiate in canon law .

The ordination received Schappert on 4 July 1992 at the Speyer Cathedral by Bishop Anton Schlembach .

Schappert was initially a chaplain in Bad Bergzabern and Neustadt an der Weinstrasse , before he received his first pastorate in Dirmstein with the affiliated parishes of Großkarlbach and Laumersheim in 1996 . In 1997 he also took over the management of the Grünstadt Parish Association , and in 2001 he was elected Dean of the Bad Dürkheim Dean 's Office.

Bishop Schlembach appointed Schappert vicar general of the Speyer diocese on April 4, 2005, after his predecessor Josef Damian Szuba had taken over the position of a main department head in the episcopal ordinariate at his own request. Shortly before his appointment as vicar general, Schappert had already been accepted into the cathedral chapter .

Schappert's inauguration took place on April 6, 2005 in Speyer Cathedral. With the age-related resignation of Bishop Schlembach, his tenure as vicar general ended on February 10, 2007. He continued to head the episcopal building department, for which he was also responsible.

In March 2008, the new bishop Karl-Heinz Wiesemann entrusted Schappert with the office of official, the chairman of the episcopal court . Schappert's responsibility for the building department remained, as did his membership in the supervisory board of the Roman Catholic-oriented LIGA Bank in Regensburg .

Since January 2009 Schappert has been heading the new Department IV “Finances and Real Estate” of the Episcopal Ordinariate. On February 17, 2009 the cathedral chapter elected him to the office of cathedral curator . He resigned from this office on June 30, 2019.

In May 2015, Peter Schappert was elected Chairman of the Supervisory Board of LIGA Bank.
