Peter Scheibner (born August 26, 1946 in Eutin ; † 1990 ) was a German boxer . As a professional boxer, he was German super welterweight champion (also called light middleweight and junior middleweight).

Life

As an amateur, Scheibner boxed for the SV Eutin police force and the Kaltenkirchen gymnastics club and was Schleswig-Holstein's champion seven times . In 1971 he won the German amateur championship in the weight class up to 67 kilograms. In 1972 he was awarded the bronze representative needle of the German Amateur Boxing Association (DABV).

At the end of October 1973 Scheibner had his first fight as a professional boxer. In June 1974, the trained dental technician secured the German super welterweight championship in the Hansahalle in Lübeck . Scheibner, who as a boxer was certified as having good technique and a good overview of the fight, went down against Berlin's Rainer Müller in the second round, but ultimately won on points. In January 1975 he defended his title in Hamburg against Peter Wulf . The fight was described as a "technically and militarily excellent duel", in which Scheibner won on points.

In mid-February 1975 Scheibner met European champion José Duran in Barcelona in front of 4,000 spectators and lost on points. In the fight, however, it was not about the European title. Scheibner and Wulf fought a second fight for the German championship in April 1975: Scheibner had to admit defeat on points in Hamburg. There was a third duel between the two in May 1976, and the DM title was at stake again. Scheibner, who had lost his previous five fights, knocked his opponent to the ground in the twelfth round, but he got up and was the points winner after twelve rounds.

After switching to middleweight, Scheibner was given another opportunity to box the German championship in the last year of his career as a professional boxer (1977). He faced defending champion Frank Reiche in the ring in the Bremen town hall . According to the Hamburger Abendblatt , the duel was conducted "with relentless severity" and offered "boxing technical bravery". Scheibner, who was counted six times and Reiche twice, lost after knockout in the ninth round.

Scheibner died at the age of 44.
