Peter Schoof

Peter Schoof (* 1955 in Düsseldorf ) is a German diplomat .

Life

Schoof studied political science and history at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . After the state examination in 1980, he worked there as a research assistant and received his doctorate in 1983. phil. He then began his diplomatic career as a consultant at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ( UNHCR) in Geneva and in Islamabad in Pakistan . In 1988 he switched to the German diplomatic service and completed the preparatory service in the Foreign Office . From 1990 to 1992 he worked at the German embassy in Damascus , and from 1992 to 1994 as a personnel officer for the higher service in the Foreign Office. This was followed by positions as political advisor at the permanent representation to the international organizations in Geneva, as deputy head of unit for transatlantic relations in the Foreign Office, as press spokesman for the permanent representation to the European Union in Brussels, as head of unit for fundamental questions of the European Union in the foreign office ( 2006–2011) and as a representative for bilateral relations with the EU member states (2011–2014).

From 2014 to 2017, Schoof was the German ambassador to Greece. In 2018 he was accredited as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Indonesia. On March 1, 2019, he handed over his second accreditation to East Timor's President Francisco Guterres .
