Peter Schruth (* 1952 ) is a German social worker, Berlin lawyer and university professor in Magdeburg-Stendal.

Live and act

After graduating from high school, Hans-Peter Schruth did his community service with the DRK rescue service. In 1973 he came to West Berlin to study social work at the Ev. University of Applied Sciences Berlin and law at the Free University of Berlin .

From 1984 to 1993 Peter Schruth was employed by Allgemeine Jugendberatung eV and worked together with Hannelore May on projects relating to the world of work -related youth social work - district-based learning workshops, non-profit job exchange for permanently unemployed young people, advice to the self-managed Tommy Weisbecker house - in Berlin-Kreuzberg .

From 1994 to 1997 he was assistant to youth welfare lawyer Johannes Münder at the Institute for Social Pedagogy at TU Berlin, where he did his doctorate with Münder and Manfred Kappeler .

Peter Schruth became Professor of Law in Social Work at the Evangelical University of Applied Sciences Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe in 1998 and has been Professor of Law in Social Work in the Faculty of Social and Health Care at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences since 1998, specializing in youth welfare law, social debt counseling and Material basic security.

He is co-founder and board member of the Berlin legal aid fund for youth welfare and was board member of the youth welfare organization Aktion 70 in the 1990s .

Former home children

From 2009 to 2010, Peter Schruth was a member of the Round Table on Home Education in the 50s and 60s and has been ombudsman for former children in care in Germany since 2011 . Regarding the compensation situation, he complains that no systematic injustice is recognized. He prepared the legal opinion of February 22, 2010: "Legal assessment: the injustice suffered by former children in the home in the light of a decision of the Federal Constitutional Court".

In the months of February to April 2014 there were again heated discussions, accusations and hostility towards the fund administrators, who had probably incorrectly calculated the demand. Schruth was invited to numerous press interviews as a key witness, for example in the Spiegel , in the Süddeutsche Zeitung , in the Frankfurter Rundschau , in the Tagesspiegel on page 1 and on TV (MDR, WDR, ARD). Peter Schruth threatened to resign as ombudsman if the GDR fund was cut.
