Political positions

Peter Weiß justifies his political positions with Christian social teaching, which obliges him to first turn to those who are disadvantaged and who are on the margins of society. This Christian perspective is of central importance to him, especially in labor market policy.

In order to ensure more fair wages, he was active in the enforcement of industry minimum wages and the like. a. for nursing assistants and temporary workers involved. Furthermore, he is intensively committed to a generally binding lower wage limit, in which collective bargaining autonomy is preserved. At the federal party convention of the CDU in 2011, a lower wage limit was finally decided for areas in which there are no collective agreements.

He deals intensively with pension policy issues. He has made a significant contribution to improving maternal pensions. Most recently, in order to avoid poverty in old age, he called for changes to the disability pension and compulsory insurance for solo self-employed persons in the statutory pension insurance with an opt-out option. He played a key role in shaping the new company pension strengthening law.

Peter Weiß has advocated priority for qualification and further training of the local workforce to secure the future needs of skilled workers. The influx of experts from countries outside the EU in shortage occupations should be of secondary importance.

In labor market policy, Weiß advocates new integration opportunities for the long-term unemployed. With the new five-year wage subsidies and support from a coach, this should succeed.

Weiß is critical of an extension of the maximum duration of short-time work allowance and the reimbursement of social security contributions.

He sees one of the main reasons for the emigration of young university graduates from Germany to the fact that they are often only offered limited-term employment or lower-paid temporary employment. He therefore calls for a rethink of the economy.

One of Peter Weiß’s concerns is the better participation of people with disabilities. He contributed to the creation of the Federal Participation Act and campaigned for the new instruments budget for work and budget for training.
