Peter Weingart
Peter Weingart (born June 5, 1941 in Marburg ) is a German sociologist and was a professor at Bielefeld University .
Educational biography
From 1961 to 1967 Peter Weingart studied sociology , economics , business administration and constitutional law at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg and at the Free University of Berlin , with a diploma in sociology. He was then a University Fellow at Princeton University in New Jersey , USA, until 1968 . A year later, in 1969, he was at the Free University of Berlin with Otto Stammer to Dr. rer. pole. PhD. The subject of the dissertation was The American Science Lobby. On the social and political change in the science system in the process of research planning .
Employment
Weingart worked from 1967 to 1969 as an assistant at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the Free University of Berlin. From 1969 to 1971 he was a scientific consultant at the Economic Institute of the Trade Unions in Düsseldorf and then until 1974 managing director of the university focus on science research at Bielefeld University . Weingart has been a professor of sociology with a focus on the sociology of science and science planning at Bielefeld University since 1973 , where he has held a C4 professorship since 1981. From 1983 to 1984 he was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and from 1984 to 1985 a visiting scholar at Harvard University . From 1989 to 1994 he was managing director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) at Bielefeld University. From 1993 until his retirement in 2009, Peter Weingart was director of the Institute for Science and Technology Research at Bielefeld University. Weingart has held the "South African Research Chair in Science Communication" at Stellenbosch University since 2015.

Peter Weingart is a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences , the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) and the Scientific Advisory Board of the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (HWK) in the field of social sciences and social policy. He was co-editor of Scientometrics from 1981 to 1995 and Minerva from 1995 to 1999 and the International Journal of Sociology and Social Policy . He has been the editor of Minerva since 2007 . He is managing editor of the Yearbook Sociology of the Sciences and editorial advisor to Suhrkamp Verlag in the field of science research.
