The Peterstein is 498 m above sea level. NHN high elevation with granite rock formation of the same name near Nöschenrode in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .
Geographical location
The Peterstein is located in the Lower Harz in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park . It rises around 3.8 km south-south-west of Nöschenrode and around 2.9 km south-west of Voigtstieg , both of which belong to Wernigerode , and 2.7 km north-north-west of Elbingerode , a district of Upper Harz am Brocken , immediately east-north-east of the Zillierbach reservoir dam . A rock formation that is located between the summit and the dam is also called Peterstein ( ⊙ ).
The landscape of the elevation drops towards the southwest to the Zillierbach reservoir and west to north into the valley of the Zillierbach below the dam, where a waterworks attached to the dam is located.
history
Below the Peterstein, workers excavated a consecration fund from the Bronze Age around 1000 BC during excavation work for the dam of the Zillierbach reservoir . BC , which is exhibited in the local history museum in Wernigerode.
Opportunities for viewing and hiking
The Peterstein rock is included as No. 36 in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking pin. From the rock the view falls on the dam of the Zillierbachtalsperre and part of the reservoir. There is a picnic area with seating on site.
