history

Peterzell (around 1890)

The oldest and probably the only medieval monument in Peterzell is St. Peter's Church, a small church with a few surviving Romanesque components ( Arc de Triomphe ), a late Gothic choir ( vault ) and frescoes of the early 14th century ( Epiphany , Christopher ) Romance in the former and 1904 abandoned longship. Since there are no written sources from the early Middle Ages on the history of the place - perhaps with one exception - the church is largely the only reference to the existence of Peterzell in the High Middle Ages or even earlier. It remains to be seen whether there was a Carolingian or post-Carolingian church building (see the lintel in the Gothic choir). The founding report of the St. Georgen Monastery now mentions the founding property of the monastic community in St. Georgen: “This piece of land was limited to the east by the property of St. Mary, to the west by the Brigach springs , but to the south by the edge of a long mountain , and to the north it extended to the settlements on the other side of the forest. ”With the“ property of St. Mary ”is very likely meant the property of the Reichenau monastery - in Peterzell - once because the minster in Reichenau-Mittelzell is the patroness Second, the Mother of God Mary had, because Peterzell was still owned by the monastery on the Bodensee island in the 14th century - as we shall see in a moment. The place name on -zell, which refers to a monastery cell (the Reichenau), the patronage of the "Peter" zeller "Peters" church, which corresponds to the apostle who was also venerated on the Reichenau (in Niederzell), and finally the fact that with Hezelo a monastery bailiff who was Reichenau founder of the St. Georgen monastery. Many a plot of land will have been alienated by the Reichenau bailiff when the St. Georgen monastery was founded. Why not goods west of the Reichenau property in Peterzell? However, certainty cannot be obtained in these questions, and so we leave the uncertain beginnings of Peterzell in the following.

The first (documented) mention of the place dates from the year 1331. In 1369 the Reichenau Monastery sold Peterzell with the Mühlbach and Hohenbrunnen as well as the fiefs on the Ruprechtsberg (Rupertsberg) to the St. Georgen Monastery. The latter also acquired half of the bailiwick of Peterzell from Egnolf von Wartenberg in 1381, followed by the acquisition of the other half in 1445, which the monastery bought from the Rottweiler patrician Bernhart Haugg. In the same year, the Counts of Württemberg came into the possession of Peterzeller estates that had previously belonged to the Lords of Falkenstein. With the acquisition of St. George during the Reformation, the whole of Peterzell was now part of Württemberg territory. Another turning point was the destruction of the place by the Villingen citizens in 1525.

The reconstruction of Peterzell then heralds the early modern era of the small town in the Duchy of Württemberg. In 1810 Peterzell became Baden. Since April 1, 1974, Peterzell has been part of St. Georgen in the Black Forest.

Economy and Infrastructure

Several regional companies are now based in Peterzell. Most of them are located in the newly developed industrial and commercial area of Hagenmoos-Engele. The industrial park is located approx. 6 kilometers from the core city and is only half a kilometer from the spa town of Königsfeld.

Sports

With over 500 members, FC Viktoria Peterzell is the largest club in Peterzell. With over 150 members, the young people have a considerable share in this. These form 5 soccer teams that take part in the active game operation. A girls' gymnastics group is very popular. The first and second teams that are currently playing in the district league B, strive to achieve promotion to the district league A. As a recreational sports group, the association maintains a women's gymnastics group, an AH soccer team, a men's gymnastics group, a body fit group and a you and he gentle gymnastics group. A girls' team was founded in 2013, but this was dissolved again in 2015. FC Viktoria Peterzell has also had a women's soccer team since 2014.

FC Viktoria was re-founded in 1959 after there was already a club of the same name in Peterzell in the years 1920–1929. In 1976 the city of St. Georgen acquired additional land in the sports field area in order to meet the growing demands of the club. The existing course was expanded into a hard court, as it existed until 2011. At the same time, a children's playground and a large area for parking spaces were created. A grandstand with showers and changing rooms was built as early as 1962/63. In 1982/83 a club house with a sales kiosk was added to the existing grandstand. The sporting success of the club is evident in the championship in the C-class in 1966/67 and the associated promotion to the B-class, which could not be maintained and the immediate relegation followed. In 1980/81 and 1993/94, FC Viktoria was promoted from the district league B to the district league A. However, this class could not be held for long. On August 1, 2011, an artificial turf pitch was opened.
