history

In 1086 it was first mentioned that parts of Langenschiltach had been settled. Over 200 years later, in 1303, the name appeared in the Shilta . The first known owners in Langenschiltach came from Hornberg . When they died, this part went to the Sankt Georgen monastery in the Black Forest . Most of Langenschiltach, however, was claimed by the Counts of Fürstenberg . In 1368 almost all of Langenschiltach belonged to the Tunningen family from Villingen due to inheritance . Only gradually did more and more parts of Langenschiltach belong to the monastery in St. Georgen. In 1760, Langenschiltach became an important place at the time thanks to a post office on the Strasbourg - Schaffhausen route operated by the Thurn and Taxis Post Office . This post road already lost its importance with the construction of the Black Forest Railway . On July 1, 1973, Langenschiltach was incorporated into the city of Sankt Georgen in the Black Forest .

The agriculture still plays a major role. Nowadays one tries to develop a further source of income with the offer “ Holidays on the farm ”. This place is a popular destination, especially for city dwellers .

administration

In Langenschiltach there are the districts of Erlenmoos, Vogte, Föhrenbächle, Gründle, Holops, Prechtberg, Kaltenbronn, Hutneck and Schachenbronn, part of which belongs to the neighboring municipality of Tennenbronn. Furthermore, two new building areas have emerged in the course of the last four decades, in which most of the Langenschiltach residents live.
