Petra Kipphoff (actually: Petra Kipphoff von Huene, born January 5, 1937 in Hamburg ) is a German literary scholar , art historian , cultural journalist and author.

life and work

Kipphoff was born as the daughter of the businessman Heinz Kipphoff and his wife Erika Kipphoff (née Stuber). She grew up in Thuringia , where the family relocated during the Second World War (until 1946). She attended the Heilwig-Gymnasium in Hamburg, which she graduated from high school in 1956. She then studied German , English and art history in Kiel, Hamburg and Munich. She was impressed by the lectures given by the literary scholar Adolf Beck (1906–1981), the English scholar Ludwig Borinski (1910–1998), Ulrich Pretzel (1898–1981), Hans Pyritz (1905–1958) and the literary critic Hans Wolffheim (1904–1998). 1973), all of whom taught in Hamburg.

In 1961 she was at the Hamburg University with a thesis on Karl Kraus Dr. phil. PhD. Her first article, Adolf Butenandt , appeared on April 8, 1960 : A correct teacher, a strict examiner, a great researcher in the weekly newspaper Die Zeit . She then belonged to their features section as an editor until 2002. From 1960 to 2013, Kipphoff published 725 articles online during the period and in time , mainly literary and art reviews that were widely noticed and cited. She regularly followed the documenta exhibitions very critically but benevolently.

With her husband, the artist Stephan von Huene , she designed a cycle of time - collages that developed from an exchange of letters. Kipphoff sent von Huene newspaper editions, who sent back word fragments supplemented with drawings. The works were exhibited in the Hamburger Kunsthalle in 2003 .

Kipphoff is a member of the editorial board of the publication Artists - Critical Lexicon of Contemporary Art . She has been a freelance writer for Die Zeit since 2003 .
