Petra Lönne (born January 19, 1968 in Aurich ) is a German prehistoric archaeologist .

Scientific career

Petra Lönne studied prehistory , anthropology and botany at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . In 1999 she received her doctorate there with the thesis " The Middle Neolithic in southern Lower Saxony. Investigations into the cultural complex Großgartach, Planig-Friedberg, Rössen" .

From 1999 to 2000 Lönne was a research trainee at the Landesmuseum Württemberg in Stuttgart , Department of Archeology. From 2000 to 2001 she was employed by the Lower Saxony State Museum in Hanover , Department of Prehistory, where she worked as part of a research project for the scientific evaluation of the archaeological excavations on Dümmer carried out by the Reich Office for Prehistory between 1938 and 1941 . In 2002 he was employed by the Braunschweig district government to carry out archaeological excavations in the area of ​​the Neolithic settlement and earthworks in Großenrode , Northeim district . Lönne has been a district archaeologist for the Northeim district since 2003. From 2004 to 2008 she was an elected member of the main committee of the Archaeological Commission for Lower Saxony .

In 2008 Lönne, in her role as district archaeologist, was presented with finds from two illegal probes , including a Roman hipposandal . Such a find of Roman material so far in the east seemed unusual. During an inspection in the field, the location of the Harzhorn event was finally found . The site could initially be kept secret from robbery graves and the scientific investigation could begin. Today Lönne is responsible for coordinating the Harzhorn project together with the Lower Saxony state archaeologist Henning Haßmann .
