Eberhard Petschinka (born October 19, 1953 in Großmugl / Lower Austria ) is an Austrian writer , radio play author , director and painter .

Life

Eberhard Petschinka was born as the oldest of eight children. The former head of the private alternative school in the Wiener Werkstätten- und Kulturhaus writes plays, radio plays and for cabaret . In the 1980s and 1990s his first literary works, performances and his own productions of his theater pieces were created on larger stages. The premiere of the stage version by Rafael Sanchez tells Spiel mir das Lied von Tod took place under his direction in 1997 at the Basel Theater. His play Blutiger Ernst premiered in 2001 at the Burgtheater in Vienna, Die Jüdin von Toledo based on a novel by Lion Feuchtwanger in 2010 at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and at the Theater am Neumarkt in Zurich .

Eberhard Petschinka often works with the composer Wolfgang Mitterer , for whom he also writes opera libretti .

Since 1999 he has also been involved in film (Casanova Matador) and painting. He lives and works in Vienna.

Awards

Petschinka has received numerous international prizes and awards for his radio plays. His radio play Null Bytes received a Special Commendation at the Prix ​​Futura 1993, Krok was awarded the Prix Futura in 1995. Rafael Sanchez tells Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod (1999) received the radio play award of the war blind and the Premio Ondas in Barcelona. For Splitter (1999) he received the Radio Play Prize from the Radio Basel Foundation . In 2006 Tournante achieved 4th place at the Prix ​​Europa .
