Petteri Lehto (born March 13, 1961 in Turku ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League from 1978 to 1990 .
Career
Petteri Lehto began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of TPS Turku , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the playoffs of the 1978/79 season . He then played for a year for the Canadian junior team Melville Millionaires in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League . The defender then returned to Finland, where he was on the ice for one year each for his hometown club TPS Turku and Lukko Rauma in the SM-liiga. From 1982 to 1984 he ran again for TPS Turku, where he came in the 1983/84 season parallel to some missions for the Finnish national team, which was in preparation for the Olympic Games in Sarajevo in the SM-liiga.
In July 1984 Lehto signed a contract as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins , for which he was on the ice in six games in the National Hockey League in the 1984/85 season . Most of the season, however, he spent with their farm team Baltimore Skipjacks in the American Hockey League . From 1985 to 1987, the left shooter played again for TPS Turku before joining its league rivals KalPa Kuopio for the 1987/88 season. In the seasons 1988/89 and 1989/90 he was each Finnish champion with TPS Turku . He then ended his career at the age of 29 and was a scout in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche .
International
For Finland , Lehto took part in the junior division of the U18 European Junior Championship in 1979 . in the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , where he scored two goals and two assists in six games.

His brother Joni was also a professional ice hockey player. His son Leo, played soccer in Kolmonen for FC Kiffen 08 Helsinki and in the USA, soccer at Northeastern University in Boston .
