Petunia bonjardiensis is a plant type from the genus of petunia ( Petunia ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). It is a perennial , herbaceous plant , in the south of Brazil is based.

description

Petunia bonjardiensis is a perennial , herbaceous plant that is 15 to 30 cm high and forms cushion-like pad with a diameter of 50 to 70 cm. The stems are branched, ascending, up to 5 mm thick and with up to 1 mm long, glandular trichomes, densely woolly hairy. The internodes have a length of 10 to 40 (rarely up to 50) mm. The leaves are elongated to elliptical, 30 to 50 (rarely up to 80) mm long and 8 to 30 (rarely up to 40) mm wide. They are sparsely hairy, only the edge and the midrib are woolly hairy. The base is pointed, sessile to almost sessile, the tip is blunt, occasionally also pointed.

The flowers are on 12 to 25 (rarely up to 38) mm long, densely glandular and woolly hairy pedicels . The sepals are fused only 2 to 3 mm above the base and form 12 to 17 (rarely up to 22) mm long and 2 to 3 (rarely up to 5) mm wide, widely protruding calyx tips. They are linear to narrow, inversely lanceolate, the tip is rounded. The crown is 28 to 38 (rarely up to 43) mm long including the corolla lobes. The corolla-tube is broadly bell-shaped and 22 to 25 (rarely up to 25) mm long, particularly tomentose along the central ribs of the petals. The corolla lobes are reddish purple in color and divided into five sections. Each section is circular with the tip rounded or occasionally cut off. The five stamens come in three sizes: two long, two medium-sized, and one short. All stamens are shorter than the longest calyx-tip, they are free from slightly below the center of the corolla tube. The stamens are hairless and attach to the base of the corolla tube. The ovary is ovoid, the pen is slim and slightly bilobed scar is always clear about 1 to 4 (rarely 5) mm beyond the stamens.

On the fruit, the stalks are strongly curved and elongated to 17 to 40 (rarely up to 60) mm. The capsule is spherical and spiky at the tip. The fine seeds are inverted kidney-shaped and 0.67-0.86 mm long.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 14.

Occurrence and locations

The species is endemic in the highlands west of the Serra Geral , it is mainly concentrated around the city of Bom Jardim da Serra in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina . It is often found there in disturbed locations such as open road slopes or on sterile, stony soils with weak grass cover.

Botanical history

Petunia bonjardinensis was first described in 1993 by Toshio Ando and Goro Hashimoto as an independent species . Previously collected specimens were mostly Petunia integrifolia subsp. integrifolia assigned, but they differ in the well above the anthers standing scars and the bell-shaped wide corolla tube of this. The type epithet is derived from the name of the location.
