Pegeia (also Peyia , Greek Πέγεια ) is a city in the Paphos district in Cyprus . In 2011 the entire community had 3953 inhabitants. The coastal village of Agios Georgios Pegeia also belongs to Pegeia .

Pegeia is located in the west of the island of Cyprus at an altitude of about 190 meters, about 14 km northwest of Paphos . It is the last location before the uninhabited nature reserve on the Akamas Peninsula . To the north of the municipality is the Avakas Gorge .

Places in the area besides Agios Georgios Pergeia are Kathikas , Akoursos , Kissonerga and Lemba .

Pegeia is known for its sea caves.

Sports

The 3828-seat Peyia Municipal Stadium is located in Pegeia , and from 2003 to 2012 it was the home ground of APOP Kinyras Peyias , interim first division club and Cypriot cup winners . After the dissolution of APOP Kinyras Peyias in 2012, the Peyia 2014 club has been based in the city since 2014 and also plays its games in the stadium.

International football matches were also held in the city. Among other things, from the Cypriot national soccer team for women or the Liechtenstein national soccer team .
