Pastor training (EKD)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The pastor training within the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) uses the model of the two-stage training of its theologians . A distinction is made between the study of Protestant theology and the church preparatory service ( vicariate ). The study is possible at the Protestant Theological Faculties as well as at some church universities and usually ends with the First Theological Exam . This is the responsibility of the respective Protestant regional church . As a rule, however, the examiners are the university lecturers who have qualified as professors at the respective theological faculties . There is also the option of completing the theology studies with a diploma . The vicariate is followed by the second theological exam (pro ministerio) . This is followed by the ordination and the introduction to a pastor's office , as well as often the establishment of a public service relationship, which is based on the civil service law , but dispenses with an oath of service.

Structure of the course

In the first part of the course ( basic course ), which is concluded with an intermediate examination , the focus is on the languages Hebrew , Greek and Latin , which are important for reading the Bible and church history texts up to modern times , unless they were learned before the start of the course. In addition, there is the practice of scientific work, especially exegesis , the reading of essential source texts and events that provide an overview of the subject. The basic course is followed by the main course , which is traditionally shaped, among other things, by the form of the main seminar . The study of Protestant theology is modularized as a result of the Bologna Process , which means that the individual courses belong to modules .

The actual course traditionally consists of five main subjects. The subject of the Old Testament deals with the Old Testament texts in Hebrew and Aramaic , their genesis , their interpretation and their context in the history of Israel and the history of ancient Near Eastern religions . The subject of the New Testament deals with the New Testament texts, their history of interpretation and today's interpretability. Church and theological history ask about developments over the last 2000 years and their interpretative approaches. The Systematic Theology with the disciplines of dogmatic theology and ethics developed in dialogue with the humanities a systematic order. The practical theology is in Liturgik , pastoral (Poimenik, Pastoraltheologie) Religionspädagogik , Homiletik (homiletics) Oikodomik / cybernetics and Diakonik subdivided.

In detail, the structure of the theology course looks slightly different at each university. The faculties agree on the basic principles of the course at the Theological Faculty Day, which publishes its decisions, which are not legally binding, on its own website.

Vicariate

The exact procedure of the vicariate is regulated differently in the different member churches of the EKD. The vicariate usually consists of a practical phase in the congregation, which is accompanied by the local parish priest as a mentor, and a theoretical phase in the seminary that reflects on what has been experienced. During the vicariate, the focus is on practical training in all areas of community work, especially church services and casuals , pastoral care and confirmation classes .
