The Roman Catholic parish church of Berndorf bei Salzburg is surrounded by a cemetery in the center of the municipality of Berndorf bei Salzburg in the province of Salzburg . The parish church of the Assumption of Mary belongs to the deanery Köstendorf in the archdiocese of Salzburg . The entire churchyard is a listed building .

history

The church has been a parish church since 1130 . In 1909 there was a restoration. 1969 was an exterior restoration. During the interior restoration carried out in 1984, three previous buildings were excavated, the first church building is Carolingian , the Romanesque building in the south had an attached baptistery.

architecture

The church is surrounded by a cemetery in the center of the village and has an arcade with the chapel of St. Sebastian and Anna connected. The church, in its core Romanesque, with a late Gothic central and southern aisle and a Baroque north aisle, has a late Gothic west tower with a Baroque bell storey. The three-aisled nave and the single-aisled, slightly retracted choir with a polygonal end under a shared saddle roof have a circumferential base. The windows on the south aisle and on the choir are pointed arch with tracery and have glass windows from 1909. The choir window in the choir axis is walled up. The north aisle has simple baroque windows. In the south the church has a late Gothic triple grooved portal. In the north of the first nave yoke there is a baroque arched portal. The late Gothic west tower, which is presented in the axis, has a base and a profiled cornice. The baroque octagonal bell storey from the late 17th century with rounded sound windows has an onion with a lantern at the end . The two-storey sacristy in the south on the first choir bay adjoins the south aisle in the same width and height and has a beveled, high rectangular portal in the east with the year 1671.

The raised central nave has a six-diamond vault, the south aisle has a four-diamond vault, and the choir has a ribbed vault. All ribs in the late Gothic area were reconstructed in 1909. In the first yoke of the south aisle there are late Gothic round services with fragments of ribs on the south wall and the lower part of a round service on the first central nave pillar from the former late Gothic gallery. The baroque north aisle is groin vaulted with stucco mirrors with belt arches over wall pilasters between the yokes. In the west wall of the central nave is a pointed arched beveled portal to the tower. The tower ground floor is groin vaulted with a segmented arch opening to the tower upper floor. The sacristy portal in the first choir bay is from the late 17th century.

The gallery from 1984 spans the entire width of the three naves. There is also an organ gallery in the central nave. In the south aisle is a pointed arched portal to the upper floor of the arcade.

There are numerous tombstones from the 15th and 16th centuries.

Furnishing

The high altar in the niche of the walled-in axis window bears the late Gothic figure standing Mary with child from the end of the 15th century and to the side the console figures Joachim and Anna from the middle of the 19th century. The left side altar shows the altar sheet Heiliger Wandel from the end of the 18th century and on the side carries the console figures Florian and Johannes Nepomuk from the end of the 18th century. On the right side altar wall there is a crucifixion group from the mid-19th century.

The pulpit from 1853 has the reliefs of Christ and the four evangelists. There are further console figures of Joseph, Johannes Evangelist, Sebastian and Leonhard, all from the middle of the 19th century. The painter Sebastian Stief (1853) painted the Stations of the Cross . There is a late Gothic polygonal font from the 1st half of the 16th century with a Baroque font lid.

The organ was built by Hans Mauracher (1892).
