history

A church in Eisenkappel is first mentioned in a document between 1050 and 1065. The elevation to the parish church took place either in 1106 or in the 13th century.

description

The choir dates from the 14th century, the nave was rebuilt as a three-aisled, three-bay hall after it was destroyed by a Turkish invasion in 1473 .

North-east of the nave is the baroque plague chapel with a groin vault . The tower on the south-west corner, in the core older than the nave, has a tower spire from the 19th century. The bell, cast by Georg Renner in 1571, is no longer in use.

Next to the tower, which is half the width of the nave, is the two-axis vestibule and above it the two-axis west gallery, both with a ribbed vault . The portals on the south and west sides date from the late Gothic period . The star rib vault in the central nave and the net rib vault in the side aisles rest on four cantoned pillars and on the walls on pillar templates.

A richly profiled, pointed arched choir arch connects the nave with the two-bay choir with a five-eighth end . Here a ribbed vault rests on recessed, polygonal pillars, the profiles of which are continued in the belt arches . The sinkers in the corners have mask brackets.

The portal on the south side of the choir with painted frame decorations is marked 1599. The Gothic seating niche has a tracery crown .

In 2000 , Valentin Oman created relief glass panes for the windows in the nave .

The niche in the cafeteria contains a reclining figure of Saint Rosalia .

The console figures of Saints Martin , Katharina , Barbara and Georg in the choir were created in the 18th century and come from a previous altar . The baroque statuettes of the four evangelists from the second half of the 18th century were originally part of the pulpit . The church also features a baroque crucifix , a Madonna from the first half of the 18th century, a sculpture of St. Leonhard from the 16th century, and pictures of the Stations of the Cross from 1850 .
