Building description

The church is a Romanesque - Gothic building with baroque additions. The core of the original choir tower church dates from the 12th century. The late Gothic, one-bay choir with five- eighth end and buttresses placed across the corner was built before 1514. The tower between the choir and the nave has baroque arched acoustic windows and a baroque onion helmet. In the baroque period a sacristy was added to the north and a chapel to the south. The choir has two lancet windows that have been newly glazed. There are baroque arched windows on the nave and on the chapel annex. A small Romanesque arched window was uncovered on the south side of the nave. In addition, remains of a Christophorus fresco from the 13th century have been preserved. The late Gothic, pointed arched and profiled west portal with iron-studded door is framed by a painted columned pedicle. In the gable field, the coat of arms of Porcia and a banner with the foundation inscription by Alfons Gabriel von Porcia from 1832 is shown. Above it is a picture of the Archangel Michael.

A star ridge vault rises above the four-bay nave , which merges into grooved pillars with semicircular templates on the north side, into brackets of a head supported on the arms on the south side, and into pillars in the two west bays. The late baroque wooden gallery has a swinging parapet.

In the choir, a ribbed vault rises above polygonal wall templates. The fresco on the end wall of the choir with a representation of the Last Judgment , the Archangel Michael and the Mother of God with the child was created in 1514 and uncovered in 1947. In the north wall of the choir bay is the entrance to the sacristy with a flat ceiling and arched window. In the tower yoke (crossing) a late Gothic net rib star rests on head consoles. The tower yoke opens to the choir with a pointed, beveled triumphal arch , to the nave with a wide, beveled pointed arch and to the southern chapel with a slightly lower pointed arch opening. The barrel vault with stitch caps in the two- bay south chapel with altar conche is structured by belt arches on pilasters .
