Parish Church of Maria Kumitz

The Roman Catholic parish and pilgrimage church of Kumitz stands on a hill northwest of Bad Mitterndorf in the Liezen district in Styria . It is dedicated to the Memorial Day of the Sorrows of Mary . The parish of Kumitz and the parishes of Bad Mitterndorf and Tauplitz form a parish association in the dean's office of Upper Ennstal - Styrian Salzkammergut . The church is a listed building .

history

In 1717 a calvary was built on the mountain from the center of Bad Mitterndorf. A small calvary chapel was built on the site of today's church. In 1766 the foundation stone was laid for today's church. By 1773 the construction and parts of the facility were completed under the supervision of Pastor Matthias Strenberger. The church tower was built in 1778 and 1779. In 1782 it was raised to an independent parish. Restorations took place in 1849 and between 1967 and 1969.

Church building

The nave is almost square and vaulted . The wall pillars are completed by strong cornice capitals . The Emporenjoch is somewhat narrower and flatter than the longship yokes and is arched with a stitch cap . The one-yoke choir is drawn in with a semicircle. On the outside, the choir ends in a 3/8 end with side chapels. The low sacristy is to the east of the choir - it is the former Calvary chapel from 1717. The ground floor of the west tower is open on two sides. The tower is closed by a baroque onion helmet .

Furnishing

The high altar from 1779 was built by the wood sculptor and painter Johann Fortschegger , who also created the free-standing tabernacle from 1773 and the pulpit from 1774. All three objects were gilded by Johann Pirker in 1780 . On the high altar is a late Gothic wooden Pietà from 1500. Above the high altar is a small baroque fresco depicting the Holy Trinity . In the choir hang 16 flags in baroque style with motifs from the Passion and the life of Mary . The eternal light traffic light comes from the construction time.

In the side chapels there are neo-Gothic altars from 1869 and 1873. The figure of St. Florian and the baptismal font were restored in 1971.

The bell, cast around 1300, was transferred here from the Aussee parish church in 1874 .

On the way to the church there are five brick baroque station chapels with wooden plaques.
