Parish church Bad Aussee

The Roman Catholic parish church of Bad Aussee is located in the eastern center of Bad Aussee in the Liezen district in the state of Styria . It is dedicated to the feast of Pauli Conversion . Together with the parishes of Altaussee and Grundlsee, it forms a parish association in the dean's office of Upper Ennstal - Styrian Salzkammergut .

history

In 1301 the church was first mentioned in a document as a vicariate. Excavations during the renovation in 1983 showed that there was a Romanesque church here as early as 1200 . This was a two-bay church with a large, rectangular choir closure, which was designed as a choir tower. The foundations have been preserved. Between 1426, this is confirmed in a certificate of indulgence by Pope Martin V , and in 1464 the Romanesque church was gothicized . Until the Josephine church reform in 1786, it was the only parish in Styria that belonged to the Diocese of Passau . Until 1773 it was incorporated into the Traunkirchen monastery.

The core of the nave of the church is Romanesque , the aisle and the tower were built in the 15th century. The chapel extension in the north dates from the 18th century. Restorations took place in the years 1825 to 1828, 1854, 1891, 1933 and 1983. The tower was restored again in 1909.

The nave consists of two square yokes with a four-part diamond-star rib vault . The low triumphal arch is constricted and has a pointed arch . The high choir was probably built in the last quarter of the 15th century. It is just as wide as the nave and consists of two narrow rectangular yokes with a 5/8 end . There is a ribbed vault above the choir . The outside of the church is supported by stepped buttresses . On the eastern yoke of the nave, a roughly square aisle yoke, the women's chapel, is built on in the south. Above it is an eight-part diamond-shaped ribbed vault with a round keystone . On this is a building inscription from 1429 and a stonemason's mark . The two narrow yokes to the east correspond to the choir yokes, the western one with a four-part diamond star, the eastern one with painted ribs. By ogival arcades the aisle is connected to the nave. The pillars are designed as circular services . In the south of the two eastern side aisles, the old sacristy, today the baptistery, was added from the end of the 15th century, as well as the women's chapel from 1498. In the baptistery there is a ribbed vault, in the women's chapel there is a vault with acanthus stucco and beginning banding from 1709. Seven steps lead from the aisle to the women's chapel. Stations from the life of Mary are shown in the picture fields . In front of it is a wrought iron grille. Below the women's chapel is the All Souls Chapel with an altar hall made of bricks between the two arches to the former Karner, which is below today's sacristy. The entrances to the chapel were walled up. To the north of the choir is the Josephs Chapel from 1735 with bandwork stucco and putti with carpentry tools . In front of the altar with the baroque statues of St. Zacharias and St. Elisabeth there is a neo-Gothic baptismal font. To the right of the baptistery hangs a copy of the Mariahilf picture in Innsbruck by Lucas Cranach .

In the southwest corner of the nave is a mighty, five-story tower with a high wedge roof. The individual floors are separated by strong coffin cornices . The sound windows are Gothic . The tower hall has a star rib vault . Between the tower and the Marienkapelle is a richly profiled pointed arch portal from 1500, as well as the east portal of the old sacristy.

The three-axis west gallery, built in 1464, is compact and rests on a ribbed vault , extended by a protruding wooden gallery from 1801. Gothic stairs lead up.

A fresco was uncovered on the outer, northern choir wall in 1962/63 . The epitaph painting from the second half of the 16th century shows the " Transfiguration of Christ ".

Furnishing

In the choir there is a sacrament house made of red Adnet marble . It reaches up to the vault at a height of ten meters and comes from the Aussee stonemason Engelprecht. Like the one in the Altaussee parish church, the sacraments house, built in 1523, is positioned across the corner. The base is decorated with salt buckets. Above is the sacrament shrine with measure and foliage . One of the ornamental grilles is Gothic, the other was replaced during a renovation in 1821. The tabernacle has a three-tier top. In the statue niches there are St. Salvator Mundi with a chalice, cross and lamb, as well as St. Mary. These were probably added later. At the top there is a half figure of the Man of Sorrows .

The high altar with figures dates from the second quarter of the 18th century. The altarpiece shows the "fall of Saul ". According to a chronogram, it was restored in 1838. The tabernacle dates from 1895/96.
The Anna Altar (originally Leopoldialtar) was donated by Anton von Crollolanza in 1726 around 1700. It consists of two twisted columns, acanthus ornaments and a picture of St. Anne from 1891 by Karoline Frast-Schwach . The original painting, an oil painting by Kremser Schmidt , is now kept in the rectory. The figures represent Karl Borromeo , St. Peter , St. Joseph and St. Anthony of Padua . The essay shows the "Sunday Trinity". The Joseph altar dates from the second quarter of the 18th century. The Florianialtar is late baroque . The picture painted by Jakob Krall in 1801 shows next to St. Florian a view of Aussee (today: Bad Aussee).
On the rococo altar in the women's chapel stands an important "Beautiful Madonna", a stone casting , probably made between 1410 and 1420 in Salzburg .
The classicist pulpit was built by Johann Fortschegger in 1782. There are three reliefs on the basket ("Christ as the Sower", "The Rich Fish" and "Worker in the Lord's Vineyard"). A late Gothic cross group, created around 1500, was restored in 1972. It was originally located above the south portal. In the church there are numerous baroque pictures and statues, such as "Mary with St. Francis Xavier " from 1722 or "Holy Dismas with the Holy Family ". The Stations of the Cross were made in 1738, the pews in 1891 and the organ case . The organ work was renewed in 1983 by Rieger Orgelbau . In the tower hangs an important bell with reliefs, cast by Hans Mitter in Judenburg in 1445. It was a foundation of Emperor Friedrich III. (HRR) For this reason, it bears an inscription dedicated by him, his coat of arms and his motto A.EIOU

Another coat of arms tombstone was erected for Hans Mälz († 1662). The pastor's grave stones were for Johann Megglin († 1664) and Andreas Silly († 1705). The parents of Anna Plochl , wife of Archduke Johann Jakob († 1826) and Anna († 1821) are also buried here. Your neo-Gothic tombstone was created by the Salzburg master stonemason Johann Doppler . On the old cemetery wall are the coat of arms stones for Niklas Pogenwirt and his daughter Cäcilia († 1463) and Vicar Heinrich Weisinelter (Weissenfelder) († 1518). A full figure in armor was set up for Christoph von Praunfalk († 1545) and an ore bust by Viktor Tilgner for Remy van Haanen († 1894) .
