The Roman Catholic Mönchhof parish church is in an elevated position in the Mönchhof community in the Neusiedl am See district in Burgenland . The parish church of St. Magdalena - incorporated into Heiligenkreuz Abbey - belongs to the Frauenkirchen dean's office in the Eisenstadt diocese . The church is a listed building .

history

A previous church, mentioned in a document in 1240, was destroyed during the Turkish war in 1683. The church was a branch of the Podersdorf parish church from 1595 to 1636 . The new baroque building was carried out from 1729 to 1734 with the master mason Karl Moispointner from Mönchhof under the construction management of Elias Hügel from Kaisersteinbruch. The stone carving was done by Jakob Gramaschy from Winden am See. A restoration was carried out in 1960, a general restoration of the interior of the church from 1967 to 1972.

architecture

The uniform baroque building shows the coat of arms of the Heiligenkreuz Abbey in Stuck on the square basement on the north-west facade, the year 1734 in the wedge of the window, and the inscription Renov in the lintel of the portal. 1960, 1972. The squat facade tower with tapering volutes and an onion helmet stands on a wide intermediate plinth . An equally wide choir with an apse with a straight end with beveled corners adjoins the nave .

Furnishing

The high altar was created by Elias Hügel (1739). Martino Altomonte painted the altarpiece, the penitent Magdalena , and Giovanni Giuliani designed the figural decorations .
