The parish church of Neukirchen an der Enknach is located in Neukirchen an der Enknach in the municipality of Neukirchen an der Enknach in Upper Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary belongs to the deanery Braunau in the diocese of Linz . The church and the cemetery with walling and gate are under monument protection .

history

A church was first mentioned in a document in 803. Today's hall church was built in 1430, perhaps with master Oswald Bürkel, based on the model of the Braunau hospital church and is considered the oldest Marian shrine in Upper Austria.

architecture

The four- bay nave has a star rib vault. The outer yokes are each lengthened by half a yoke. To the side of the fron arch, there are three- eight apses on each side , as in the Braunau and Eggelsberg hospital church. The retracted, higher, two-bay choir has a ribbed vault and a three-eighth end. The four-axis, slightly broken west gallery lies on a ribbed vault . The Gothic south portal to the small vestibule has a keel arch . The north portal has a pointed arch, the sacristy door a cantilever . It leads into the sacristy with a star rib vault. The mighty tower in the northern choir corner has a late Gothic stone gallery and a new, eight-sided pointed helmet . The tower height is 73 meters.

On the outer head of the choir is a late Gothic, figural representation of the cross group from around 1530, probably by a pupil of Hans Leinberger .

Furnishing

The high altar from the third quarter of the 17th century was changed in the 19th century. The statues of Saints Franz Xavier and Johannes Nepomuk are from the middle of the 18th century. The altarpiece with the death of Mary is marked ATS 1665.

The organ was built in 2009 by Karl Nelson from Lidköping. The mechanical slider chest instrument has 17 sounding stops on two manuals and pedal.

There is a four-part bell in the tower that sounds on the notes e 1 g sharp 1 h 1 c sharp 2 . Bells 1, 2 and 4 were cast in St Florian in 1950. Bell 3 was cast by Johann Heinrich Hueber in Braunau in 1712. In the past, all four bells were equipped with clapper catchers . As a further bell there is a death bell, which sounds in the tone a 2 and was also cast in St Florian in 1950. It is still rung by hand today.
