history

Around 1300 there was a vicariate in Niederleis and in 1560 the parish Niederleis was first mentioned in a document. Instead of the Gothic parish church "Maria im Felde", which burned down in 1808, today's church was built between 1810 and 1812. In 1814 the church was consecrated by Prince Archbishop Sigismund Anton von Hohenwart . In 2010 the parish celebrated the 875th anniversary of its foundation. At the same time, the interior renovation was completed. In 2013 the square in front of the parish church was redesigned and paved.

architecture

Church exterior

The classical church is a simple hall building with a single, just closed choir . The facade tower is covered with a tent roof. In the south and east there are extensions to the choir.

Church interior

The three-bay nave is vaulted . In between are belt arches that rest on pillars with templates. In the west of the nave there is a marbled wooden gallery. The choir is a little higher. Above is the square vault.

Furnishing

The classicist furnishings come from the construction period. The high altar was redesigned in later years and consists of a refectory with a tabernacle and adoring angels on the wall of the apse. In the frame of the former side altar painting is a crucifix from the 19th century. It is flanked by side console figures of St. John and St. Mary .

The pulpit with reliefs dates from the first quarter of the 19th century. The oil painting "Assumption of Mary" was the former high altar painting and was painted at the beginning of the 19th century. The oil paintings of St. Anna , St. Joachim and St. Karl Borromeo date from around 1800. The Stations of the Cross were painted by W. Jackl in the 19th century . The inscription panel labeled "Paulus Leudolt" was created in 1750.

A Gothic monstrance from 1506 is in custody. On it are figurative representations of St. Mary with child, St. Peter and St. John the Baptist .

organ

The organ was made by Josef Loyp in 1850 .

Bells

The bell was cast by Leonhard Loew in 1646 .
