The Roman Catholic parish church Niederrußbach is located in the village of Niederrußbach in the municipality of Rußbach in the Korneuburg district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to St. Oswald and is located in the dean's office in Großweikersdorf in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location description

The church stands in the south-east of Niederrußbach and is slightly elevated above the village. The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery.

history

The church is essentially a medieval church, which was later changed to Baroque style and enlarged in 1832. after 1359 Niederrußbach was raised to a parish, in 1715 the parish was rebuilt. Renovations were carried out between 1881 and 1895.

Church exterior

The church is a hall building with a Gothic west tower that merges into an octagonal tower at the top. The arched walls of the portal and the sound windows are profiled and have tracery oculi , which were added at the end of the 19th century. The tower ends with a distinctive gable wreath. Above it is a pointed, probably neo-Gothic pyramid helmet . The elevation of the tower dates back to 1881. The nave is a simple building with two west bays with segmented arched windows from the first half of the 18th century. The eastern extension with a round apse and side extensions dates from 1832. The walls are pierced by semicircular windows. The northern arched portal dates from around 1900.

Church interior

On the ground floor of the tower is a two- bay groin vault . In between there is a belt arch that rests on heraldic consoles. The vault dates from the 15th century or from a renovation in 1522. The nave is an elongated hall that merges into a semicircular apse. In the two older, western church yokes there is a stitch cap barrel vault over belts and pilasters with pilasters from the first half of the 18th century. The eastern extension dates from 1831 and consists of a square, square- vaulted main yoke between barrel-vaulted intermediate yokes with belt arches and wall pillars. The organ gallery was built around 1900. The stained glass on the windows depicts Saint Mary and the Holy Family . The image of Mary is from 1893, that of the Holy Family from 1903.

Furnishing

The high altar was built around 1900. It consists of a neo-Romanesque niche structure with statues of Saints Oswald, Sebastian and Rochus . The church stalls are baroque. The font dates from the first half of the 18th century and was made of sandstone . It consists of a hunched basin with angel caryatids . The church flags are from the 19th century. The cupboard in the sacristy dates from the third quarter of the 18th century. In his Rococo essay there is a crucifixion image.

The organ dates from 1900 by Franz Capek . It has 12 registers.

graveyard

There are baroque stone sculptures in the cemetery, which were probably used as gravestones for the first time. There is a group of holidaymakers from the first half of the 18th century, a sculpture depicting “ Christ at rest ”, also from the first half of the 18th century. In addition, there is a crucifixion group in the cemetery with assistance figures from 1773, a Pietà from the 18th century and grave crucifixes from the 18th century.
