Catholic parish church hl. Pankratius in Reisenberg

The Roman Catholic parish church Reisenberg is in the market town of Reisenberg in Lower Austria . The parish church of St. Pankratius belongs to the deanery Weigelsdorf in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald in the archdiocese of Vienna . The church, defensive wall and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

Reisenberg was first mentioned in a document in 1045. The parish was mentioned for the first time in 1413, and in 1544 there was already an independent, stately feudal parish with Seibersdorf. The damage caused by the Turks in 1683 could not be repaired until 1703, when the church and the tower were significantly increased.

architecture

The core of the building is a Romanesque-Gothic fortified church with a western tower. The high Romanesque nave has been extended by two exedrons . A late Gothic choir with buttresses adjoins it in the east. To the north of it is the two-storey baroque sacristy with the former oratory . The church tower, which is also Gothic, has a baroque bell storey and an onion dome.

The interior is a three- bay longitudinal central room with a lance- cap barrel , the wider central bay being extended by semicircular side chapels. The organ gallery is to the west . The stained glass windows are from 1906 and were renewed in 1946/47.

Furnishing and equipment

The baroque high altar was mentioned in 1713, from the 19th century. The high altar picture shows St. Pankratius and was created in 1895 by Heinrich Kriegler . The statues on the side are Pankratius, Florian , Leonhard and Barbara . The side altars show on the left Mary with baby Jesus (by Johann Traub ) and on the right the crucifixion group with Mary, Johannes and Mary Magdalene .

The church was renovated several times, most recently in 1993/94 outside and 2001 inside. In 2016 the three bells in the pitches c sharp 2, h 1, g sharp 1 were renewed.

Some tombstones and slabs have been preserved outside and inside, most of them by members of the Cavriani family .
