The Roman Catholic parish church Schandorf is located in the center of the community Schandorf in the Oberwart district in Burgenland . It is consecrated to St. Anna and belongs to the dean's office in Rechnitz in the Eisenstadt diocese . The building is a listed building .

history

The first parish was established in Schandorf before 1244. In the western part of the nave, the church consists of Romanesque masonry. In 1755 and 1756 the tower was renovated and rebuilt. In 1835, the church was extended to the east and newly vaulted. The inside of the church was renovated in 1972 and the outside in 1978. The south portal was uncovered with remnants of painting from around 1300.

The church is a small building with an undivided west tower and a semicircular apse. In the arched area of ​​the exposed south portal is an icon-like representation of the Madonna. Above the main portal is a painted cartouche from 1697. The north sacristy was opened in 1972 towards the nave.

Church interior

The nave has three bays. There is a square vault between wide belt arches that rest on pilasters . In the west yoke there is a three-axis gallery over square vaults. It rests on Romanesque pillars in the core. In the apse there is a cap vault between belt arches. Josef Rotter painted the two ceiling paintings from 1927 .

Furnishing

The high altar was built in 1760 and 1761. It is a simple late baroque altar with columns and pilasters. Putti and the Trinitas are depicted on the top . The altarpiece was painted by Adolf Reissig in 1890. The figures on the side depict the apostles Peter and Paul . The altar was restored in 1880 and 1971.

Bells

The original bell was cast by Andreas Haller in Szombathely in 1821 and is now privately owned.
